CapaBitLocker FAQ
What is BitLocker?
BitLocker is a security product from Windows, which is integrated into Windows. It is a method of encrypting a computer’s drives, something that raises the security level and makes it more difficult for strangers to access data on the drives if they fall into the wrong hands.
Thus, BitLocker protects data against unauthorized access, mind you, by encrypting the drives and demanding one or more types of authentications when they need to be unlocked.
What is the consequence of the lack of drive encryption?
How significant is the risk of a hacker attack?
A company’s risk of being hacked has increased drastically over the last 2 years. In particular, hackers’ interest in small and medium enterprises has gone up through the roof. Well over one in four companies has experienced a breach of IT security in 2021. Therefore, all companies should keep looking over their shoulder and keep trying to be one step ahead of any intruders at all times.
What is necessary to secure data with BitLocker?
When Microsoft introduced the BitLocker encryption tool, it was with data security in view. And even though BitLocker is a free tool that is integrated into Windows, its implementation does not come without its challenges.
Securing your data with BitLocker — and trusting it to work — requires a total of three things:
- All devices must have the maturity to be encrypted
- You must be able to monitor whether the devices remain encrypted
- Recovery keys must be saved centrally so that an employee’s drive can be unlocked if the employee loses access to it
Why do many companies continue not to encrypt their devices?
Encryption may seem like an immense, time-consuming task that is not within everyone’s capacity. At the same time, there is still a widely popular misunderstanding that devices slow down when they are encrypted, when in practice, the actual slowdown is within 2-3%.
Is there any easy and manageable drive encryption solution?
Yes, of course — and many employ solutions that make the encryption work with BitLocker both easy and manageable. One of these solutions is CapaBitLocker.
The setup of drive encryption with BitLocker takes less than 10 minutes

What does it take to use CapaBitLocker?
CapaBitLocker’s requirements are the same as BitLocker’s requirements.
- the device must have a TPM chip supporting TPM Specification 2.0 or higher
- the drives to be encrypted must be GPT-based
- a CapaInstaller installation
