Dagrofa has used CapaInstaller as part of its IT administration since 2016. A very good price and a user-friendly interface were the reasons behind the choice.

With more than 650 grocery shops across Denmark, Dagrofa is one of the country’s leading companies in the Danish food market. Dagrofa is behind MENY and the local shops SPAR, Min Købmand, and Let-Køb.

CapaInstaller — Exactly the Right Decision

650 grocery shops and Dagrofa’s entire administration are today organized with CapaInstaller. In the spring of 2016, CapaInstaller was chosen over SCCM — the user-friendly interface and a very sharp price decided the outcome.

2,500 CapaInstaller licenses cover the administration at Denmark’s largest grocery group. The deployment tool is used for central administration of every computer in the organization — simple rollout, easy distribution, and maintenance.

First of all, Dagrofa wanted to move from using several systems to using one and the same tool to administer all their devices. On top of that, the setup they had was far too complex — so it was important to them to get a system that was straightforward.

That is how it sounds from Dagrofa’s Infrastructure department, based at the head office in Ringsted.

Self-Sufficient Very Quickly

CapaInstaller is built for the purpose and for companies of Dagrofa’s size — and since the price from CapaSystems was very sharp, there was really only one challenge left: convincing everyone in the IT department, who are very Microsoft-oriented, that CapaInstaller could solve the task.

Fortunately, that was not the hardest mission. After a short course, all the functionality in the product had been reviewed, and those responsible in the department were practically self-sufficient and able to handle both centralization and standardization of Dagrofa’s IT services with CapaInstaller as the foundation.

IT Infrastructure Consultant Curt Stadler adds:

“CapaInstaller has a user-friendly interface and is not hard to find your way around. It is easy to work with for deployment and reporting, and through log reporting it is simple to find out what goes wrong when a package does not work, for example.”

In connection with the implementation, Dagrofa was assigned a dedicated CapaSystems consultant — and the collaboration worked well and “everything clicked,” as Dagrofa IT Infrastructure puts it:

“The implementation has gone far faster than expected, and we have got it exactly as we want it — it has been streamlined. Things can happen more easily than before. From the moment we decide that a package should be on a machine until it is installed, it goes considerably faster than it used to.”

And time is precisely an important factor.

Many Possibilities

From the central console in CapaInstaller, administrators can among other things:

  • OS deployment
  • Software distribution
  • Patch management
  • Reports
  • Asset and inventory management
  • New packages, and specifying who they should be distributed to
  • Tracking installations while they roll out to clients across the network
  • Administration of Windows computers and devices
We do not have a huge department, so resources are limited. But when you have this tool, the working day becomes easier, and we have the opportunity to find time for other projects. We have actually freed up time that ultimately benefits the users out in the shops.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you consolidate tools in a grocery chain?

By gathering the administration of all devices in one system rather than several. Dagrofa took that route in 2016 and chose CapaInstaller for central administration of computers across more than 650 shops. The previous setup was considered too complex, and the wish was for a tool that was straightforward.

How long does it take to get started with a new administration system?

At Dagrofa it took a short time. After a course, the department was practically self-sufficient and able to handle both centralization and standardization of the group's IT services. The implementation went faster than the department had expected.

Can a small IT department run a large retail chain?

Dagrofa's Infrastructure department describes its resources as limited, but points out that the right tool makes the working day easier. The department has freed up time that ultimately benefits the users in the shops.

What does it take to convince a Microsoft-oriented IT department?

At Dagrofa that was the last challenge. The department describes itself as very Microsoft-oriented, and the choice still fell on CapaInstaller after a review of the product's functionality. A short course was enough for those responsible to stand on their own feet.
