Struer Municipality: Click to Install
The Struer Municipality’s IT Department has a common thread that runs through and binds all of the Municipality’s endpoints together. This common thread is referred to as “end-user convenience.”
The Municipality has been CapaSystems’ client since 2018. Throughout this time, they have been using CapaInstaller and have continuously purchased Mobile Device Management, CapaPacks, CapaImages, and CapaDrivers as additional services.
Therefore, it also came entirely as a matter of course for the Municipality’s IT Department to contact CapaSystems directly when they had to re-saddle and choose an entirely new supplier because of problems with the delivery of brand-new computers for all teachers and students.
A Solution You Can Count On
“We had not used Dynabooks before, which is why we had to test the selected computer on all parameters. Since these are computers meant, among other things, for children, the requirements are, after all, quite substantial — the computer needs to be able to handle being dropped (repeatedly) or being buried deep down in a duvet without burning up. However, the model turned out to be a tough little thing. So the only question was whether CapaInstaller would be able to handle it,” explains Jakob Kusk, IT consultant at the Struer Municipality, who received the following answer from CapaSystems:
“This is a model that we have not worked with before, but I am sure that we will figure it out.”
A demo was sent to CapaSystems’ department in Skanderborg so they could test a complete roll-out. And it ended up yet another box they could tick off.
“This is one of the reasons why we use CapaSystems’ solutions. The products are easy to work with, and support is always easy to get hold of when we want to talk to them. It makes a big difference to us that the guys at CapaSystems listen and that we can always find the right path together,” continues Jakob Kusk.
“It took us around three weeks until all the computers were ready for delivery, and this was quite the experience since we were responsible for it.”
2,550 New Computers Pre-Set With Windows 11 Alone
The 2,550 new computers for all teachers and students at the Struer Municipality were ordered and subsequently delivered on 29 pallets. Pre-set with Windows 11 alone. It was “just” everything else that they needed.
The basement in the Struer Welfare House became the focal point for a wide-scale assembly line work to roll out the new computers and prepare them for delivery. The process comprised borrowing tables from the furniture storeroom, setting up switches, securing Wi-Fi access and connecting 20 computers at a time to the network. And then, it was basically: “Click to install” in CapaInstaller.
“Therefore, we have had our hands on ALL 2,550 computers, checking them inside and out and testing that everything works after installation. Once they were given their badge of approval, they were packed into their respective boxes and placed into the ‘ready-for-delivery’ cage,” says IT Consultant Niels Peter Jørgensen and continues: “It took us around 3 weeks until all the computers were ready for delivery, and this in itself was quite the experience for us, since it was we who were responsible for it.”
The members of the IT Department visited every one of the Municipality’s schools — including the docked Marilyn Anne School Ship — and handed out new computers to all students and teachers. Mind you, if they handed in their “old” computers and power supply units. This was, you see, the only condition since the old computers had, in a sustainable mindset, already been resold to a broker. With a new computer at their fingertips, everyone could now turn them on, log in directly and start tapping immediately. All computers were 100% pre-installed, updated, and available for immediate use.
“This has been a truly remarkable experience. The roll-out itself functioned to the optimum, and the addition of all computers to CapaInstaller has facilitated our central administration. We can always be confident that we can deal with each individual computer with just a couple of keystrokes — updating drivers and bios and optimizing security. If a student moves to another school, we move the ‘computer’ in CapaInstaller. Thus, each student can keep their own computer and, upon moving, will experience that they are part of the new school’s network — from Day 1,” concludes the Head of the IT and Digitalisation Department, Claus Vagn Orht.
So we are back to the common thread. End-user convenience at the Struer Municipality is quite simply also a convenience for their IT Department.
